MAIN SUBJECTS for WMWFF 2013

1.      Modern Witch-hunt: Women with certain talents or skills in the middle age were accused of practicing witchcraft. The result of witch-hunt and its effects carry on to the present day. Women have been conditioned to accept images and to define themselves through reflections from others.  What kind of discriminations and dangers do women encounter when facing unauthorized desire and images? In this section, we’re looking for films that discuss the cultural phenomenon of demonization of women in the modern society. Single / divorced mother, unmarried middle - aged women, and the discussion of mistress from all regions are highly welcomed.

2.      Women, home and country: We are looking for films that are related to director’s filmmaking experience about her hometown and her country. The subjective (in the camera) and objective (out of camera) sense of belongings, and the conflict of patriotism throughout lens will be discussed in this topic.

3.      Queer Flame: We are looking for films that portray the daily lives and struggles of the modern queer culture and unique queer individuals in the communities; and also films that depict the sexuality/ desire of queer and tell the stories that need to be shared with the world. LGBTQ, FTM, MTF, questioning, fluxion and intersex films are all welcomed.

4.      New Currents: We are looking for cutting-edge, daring films by new and upcoming female directors that are innovative in cinematic styles and forms. These films need to explore the aesthetic possibilities of the cinematic medium, and can draw on influences from all types of art forms and cultures.
