In Bamako, the capital of Republic of Mali in West Africa, under the impact of traditional customs and modern currents, women have long been cultivated their inborn surviving intelligence and courage. Photographer Seydou Keita has captured the image of vividness of women in Bamako through a series of photos. Throughout the Colonial era and the early years of Independence of Mali, the social status of women in Mali are still polarizing in different ways: on the one hand, they are still the main labor forces of Mali's social economy, and the substantial decision-makers in family matters; however, on the other hand, they've still been characterized as being second to “the men”, which the long-standing customs of polygamy being still bothered women in Mali. With the raise of female self-consciousness in recent years, it helps to lift the social status of women in Mali. Though it is still a long journey to reach, women in Mali have found their ways and showed the world their most beautiful images.
